Tarahumara Family

Tarahumara

The Tarahumara are a resilient people who have endured for centuries in the rugged Sierra Madre mountains of Mexico’s Chihuahua State.

This group of approximately 120,000 depends on the land for its sustenance, and many still practice ritual animal sacrifice to ensure adequate rains and a good harvest.

Masters of athletic endurance, they are renowned for their long-distance foot races. Because there are fewer than 500 Native believers, the task of reaching the rest of this tribe is considerable.
